Fri-Yay #1

I'm starting this new thing, perhaps weekly or perhaps not. But it's just going to be a fun little thing of items I'm buying, lusting after, reading, listening or watching. Probably not all unless I get less wordy. It's honestly my favorite thing to read from other websites/blogs. I like to see what everyone is doing and buying because sometimes you can get some great gems that way. I'll probably do them for Fridays (hence the title) but I'm putting this one up early.

Also, they're easier to write than book reviews at times. Which isn't good for me considering I'm quite behind on updating! I've read 93 out of 230 books of my book goal but I haven't added about ten of them so it's more like 103 books. Not all were great but I'm a bit behind. I still have a massive book pile to get through. My book buying has gone down quite a bit during quarantine...I've only bought five. Baby steps.

What I'm Listening To

I usually have either Amazon music or Spotify music on when I'm by the computer. I have saved playlists and this week the two that have been in some type of rotation are 20 Years of Oops...I Did It Again: The Playlist and Normal People soundtrack. I can't believe it's been twenty years since Britney came on the scene. I first heard her on a trip with my Youth Group from church. The older kids put her CD on and our southern baptist youth minister almost stroked out on the interstate.

I haven't read or seen Normal People yet. I'm pretty behind but I really like some of the songs so that's been on rotation.

I've also switched off the true crime podcasts for the minute as sometimes they get too depressing. I'm listening to Conan O'Brien's podcast called Conan Needs A Friend. It's an interview podcast, where Conan talks to someone for about an hour. I needed something happier. I actually listen on spotify...which is a different experience. It needs some work but I'm here for right now and I like being able to move between music and podcasts.

What I'm Cooking

I've got a new espresso machine so over the weekend I made some mocha lattes. I'll probably only one or two of them on the weekends because I'm trying to cut back on my caffeine intake (between tea, soda and my yummy lattes I'm overloaded).

I did make a new (to me) drink called The Honey Bee. This is a gin based drink created during prohibition and it about put me under. I would not have made it through the roaring '20s.

I also picked up a recipe when I was in Publix. It looked interesting (and easy) and figured it would give me some fun during this pandemic. It's called grilled chicken and vegetables with watermelon glaze.

What I'm Watching/Streaming

I've been doing so much re-watching. It's like comfort food but for the eyes. I'm watching Psych (the whole series) and the musical (once). I haven't seen the first movie since it aired but I plan on watching it soon. It's because the second movie is coming out soon! On NBC's new streaming service. Granted, I don't know if it's the paid part or the free part but uh...I'll figure it out eventually. My favorite person on Psych is Gus (played by the talented Dulé Hill).
I didn't dislike the first movie but I didn't love it. Granted, it was because I hadn't seen the television series in awhile so I forgot some important details. Also, the actor that played Carlton Lassitor aka "Lassie" (Tim Omundson) had a stroke and wasn't in it as much. So, the movie had to be rewritten for the turnaround in time for filming. Omundson is a great actor as an aside, I love him in Galavant. He's on This Is Us at the moment.

Another thing I'm watching and watching is Derry Girls. It's on Netflix and it is amazing. It's set in Northern Ireland during the Troubles, but follows a group of young girls (and a wee English fellow) as they navigate life. I love all the characters but I love Sister Michael. She's hilarious.

A newer show I'm watching is What We Do In The Shadows. It's a television show off the movie. It follows vampires around in the modern world. It's funny and has Matt Berry in it. Nadja is my favorite though. They're on season two I think and it's one of the few shows that I actually watch live/day of.

What I'm Buying

Well, I did try to be good...but that didn't last too long. After more than a few angry attempts with my nail polish not lasting the day, I decided to try a gel lamp. Again. The first go I had at it was when they were first made and were kinda dinky. The one I got is from Amazon. I was going to get a whole kit (nail polish, colors, tools and lamp) but the price went up by like twenty dollars and I thought it was bullshit. So I got a lamp and some polish. I actually have the nail tools just from doing my nails at home. In college, my friends and I would have girls night and watch trashy TV (real housewives) and do our hair, nails and at home facials while cooking dinner.

I bought two espresso cups and saucers and two latte cups from Macy's. They're on sale and I've been wanting them for along time. But just the cups and not the plates. They're a bit pricey but since it's just for me than it's good. The brand is Villeroy and Boch (they're sold elsewhere as well).

The gel lamp is this one from Amazon. I got the purple color because why not. I also got base and top coat for gel polish and other stuff for the nail bed to prep it for gel color. So hopefully it'll stay on for more than one day!
