Fri-Yay #12

I'm missing about one third of my hurricane supplies. I'm not too worried about myself in general for any storms. I have migraine food, migraine medicine and books to read. I do miss the ice packs when the power goes out for longer than a day.

I'm going to have to refill my supplies regardless.

I've tried out some complete flops in the recipe department. I don't think my taste is so outrageous but all the dishes turned out really bland. It's a bit of a disappointment. One was so bad I ended up ordering a last minute pizza. The good news is that I'm going through all these cookbooks and random cuttings and getting rid of the bad ones. This last attempt was a quiche that was...dull. Everyone else liked it but I thought it needed so much more.

Watching:

The new Masterpiece Mystery! I love Masterpiece but most especially their mystery subsection. The newest one is Van der Valk. It's set in Amsterdam and is a police procedural. It's based on books by Nicolas Freeling. I haven't read the books by Freeling and I haven't finished the first episode but the series seems like it's going to be a win.
Midsommer Murders is a repeat. They started the series over on Ovation, so I've been watching from series one, episode one. I like the newer episodes for reasons that are really stupid (Tom Barnaby has really loud breathing and I find it so distracting!). I'm wondering about it because one of the ladies on Hallmark Mysteries has the same issues (loud breathing and sounds). Is it the mic set up? What's happening?! Also there's more diversity in the later seasons, for reasons.

I'm also rewatching the first few seasons of the Windsors, which is a parody of the real British Royal family. Look, I've met them a few time, they're nice enough. It's just the characters in teh show are so much more ridiclous and fun. Kate Middleton might do three charities a year or whatever she does in real life...but she'll always be the the Morrison's parking lot fighting champ to me.

I'm also 3000% keen on Camilla taking over the royal family on the Windsors. Perfection.

I am the MOST excited about Miss Scarlet and the Duke. On Masterpiece. Eventually. When they feel like it.

I'm not impatient at all.

Reading:

I started Black Skies by Arnaldur Indridson. I've already messed up as it's the eighth book and I've read none of the first few. I think it might matter more than I hope. The series is set in Iceland, so I guess I should start with the first book.

I'm a tiny slump with my reading but I have reached my reading goal this year. I had planned to read 230 books and I've read 240. I think at this rate I might get a few more out. So that's exciting.

Listening:

The Casefile podcast. I guess I just want to hear about murder. It's been that type of week. It's hosted by an Australian man who discusses murder and mystery cases. I like that isn't not American-centric (I mean, he is Australian) and so I get to hear about other things. It can be a rough go depending on the episode. The min-series he did on EAR/ONS/GSK was scary...but that's because that man is scary.
