Macy's Beauty Box: January 2021

Oh God. JANUARY!!! I'm so behind here! I don't even have the other months uploaded! Get  it together girl!

This is Macy's Beauty Box, which is a subscription from Macy's. It's a monthly box filled with skincare, makeup, and haircare. Also sometimes another goodie. I think this is a great box because I tend to prefer the brands here, plus if I really like something I can pick it up via Macy's.

They have a waitlist to join, they don't do spoilers, and you don't get choices. Still, I prefer it. I've had it for awhile now (at least a year) and I tend to keep most of the items they send me. Maybe not the men's cologne since I don't personally need it.

There's always a coupon, usually for $5 the next beauty purchase at Macy's. This month's card was for $5, but I waited for them to send me a $10 one so I could buy a Dior lipstick. I don't need another lipstick...I was just enchanted. The coupons only last for the month, so you can't stack them together.

There's always a booklet included which talks about the products, how to use the products, and the cost of the products.

This month's box was themed "Hair Care Heroes." Every item (except the perfume) was hair related. Although I suppose you could spritz the perfume into your hair...

All but one item was new to me. The one product that wasn't new, I own but haven't used that much.

The first three products were hair items (as stated). Two were from the same brand. So from top to bottom:

  1. Verb Ghost Oil: Meant to smooth frizz and strengthen hair and retain moisture before a blowout. I am perpetually lazy with my hair, rarely blow drying or styling. My hair is pretty thick and it takes forever so I just don't bother. I feel like I want to try a little more with my hair, because it is easier to style when it's tamed vs. now. Especially with the humidity. So, this might come in handy. The full size of this is $18, which isn't so bad.
  2. Rahua Classic Shampoo: This is made with rahua oil (which I've never heard of, but that doesn't mean anything). The brand has a few different types of shampoo/conditioners as well, but I received the "classic" type. It has a "woodsy" aroma. I haven't smelled it so I'm not sure what that means. The smaller size is $9 on the website and the full-size is $34. I can't find the full-size on the website, which doesn't mean much because I struggle most days.
  3. Rahua Classic Conditioner: The partner to the shampoo above. the full size is $36. The note on the pamphlet also notes that it can be used a lightweight styling cream to smooth frizz/flyaway hair.

The next items, in clockwise order (except for the iron):

  1. Klorane Dry Shampoo: I like the idea of dry shampoo...but I'm rubbish at getting myself together. Some influencer recommended using it the night before you think you need it, which seems to be a good idea. I just need to get myself together. I think I have a cheap dry shampoo (from when they first came on the market!) and one from Drybar that came in a set/gift). The full size for the Klorane is $29.
  2. Michael Kors' Gorgeous: labeled a bold floral-woodsy fragrance. The website says the top note is a floral bouquet, the middle note is tobaccos accord, and the bottom note is comforting woods (what does that mean!?). The largest size is $120 for 3.4 oz. while the 1 oz. is $72. The reviews seem mostly positive. I'm still working through the Lancôme sample they sent (I don't think I like it...maybe I should look into perfuming the bath? Would that give me a migraine?).
  3. Velvet Hair Scrunchie: This was created for Macy's. I'm not going to lie...I use this ALL the time. It's soft and wonderful. I wish they had a whole set for me to buy, but I don't see any velvet ones. The pro tip included was to tie a loose ponytail before bed to preserve a style.
  4. Drybar Southern Belle Volume- Boosting Root Lifter: I have a large one of these and another small one (that I received as a gift). Sometimes I want to jack my hair up, usually when I'm at a gala. Which sounds so snobby! Sorry! There are events! Anyways, this does help for that. It's meant to be sprayed into hair roots to create the oomph for volume. It does have a scent that doesn't really bother me. The full size is $26.

The last item was from Sutra Beauty and was a Mini Ceramic Flat Iron. I have a mini hair curler (for the gym, when I had a uber-dressy professional job), so this is a nice companion to that. The full size is $80 and is linked at top. The mini size is $15 and is linked here.  I did see people complaining that the plates didn't meet, but my hair isn't bothered by that tbh, as even in the thinnest layers the plates wouldn't meet. There are a few different colors in the large size but I'm glad I received purple with the small one. I think it's good for a quick touchup, not as a full straighten. If that makes sense. This is more for flyaway, not styling in my opinion.
