Macy's November 2021 Beauty Box: YSL Edition

3/17/2022

November isn't as bad as last May. I'm getting closer. Sorta!

Macy's is my only beauty box that I get. I stay subscribed because sometimes their waitlist is impossible. I tend to have more hits than misses with the box. Only giving away a few things. This month's theme was Yves Saint Laurent. I like YSL makeup, although it can be on the higher end. I also have some of their fragrances, so I was quite excited for this box.

I believe this is the second brand take over, with the first being Jo Malone. I like these high-end takeovers. The bag even matches! It's a brown/purple (almost eggplant?) YSL bag.

As you can see, there was the dreaded "Oops" insert. I wasn't sure what was missing but I was hoping it was one of the many perfumes over the lipsticks or serum.

Luck was on my side! We got a second lipstick (I love YSL lipsticks). Best news ever! Well, for me.

I'm familiar with all the perfumes included as I have a friend that works for YSL, and he has all the smells. It helped me decide which one I wanted!

The bag is a dark brown with hints of a purple hue. It's rectangular with gold accents and zipper. The accents had little tape over them for protection. The YSL logo is also in gold and affixed to the bag. All the items fit inside with no problem. It's a nice purse size makeup bag.

Here's everything laid out. There are three perfume samples. Two lipsticks, one mascara, and the serum. One of the perfumes is a mini bottle instead of the vial. I do adore cute things like that. The vials contain the newest scents YSL created.

First up is the Radical Volumizing Mascara in Black. It came in the black and gold box, that YSL is known for. It's a standard size mascara sample. This mascara is meant to create more volume and length. It has Moroccan argan oil and B5. A full size is $29, which is actually a decent price for designer mascara. I'm southern...so I tend to slather on mascara. I'm not sure my eyelashes are the type that create a special need as I've never noticed much of a difference. I just prefer waterproof. My friend swears up and down by YSL mascara because she has blonde, short lashes. I'll take her word as gospel.

The second item was the one I was REALLY excited about!! It's the Pure Shots Night Reboot Resurfacing Serum. I love serums and all my slathering and layering is my self-care meditative time. This has glycolic acid and moonlight cactus flower. I have no idea what that is, but it sounds pretty. A full size is $88. I'm hoping I don't fall in love with it. That would be horrible. I would cry as I slathered on my expensive serum. The serum needs to be shaken to activate (it's a biphase formula).

The third item is the Rouge Volupte Shine Oil-in-Stick Hydrating Lipstick Balm. It's in this red color. These balms are insanely oil infused. Like, my lips feel slippery. I do like them, I have a few in the pink shades. I don't find the color opaque, it's more like you've had a stained lip moment...but artfully applied. Full size is $38 and they last forever.

The next item is the replacement item. Originally it was supposed to be a sample (probably in a cute little bottle) of the YSL Libre Eau de Parfum. Libre is a flowery fragrance with a modern sophistication (that's my take, it just sounds like copy). It has French lavender essence and Moroccan orange blossom. A full size is $132. I fell in love with the Libre and then fell in more love with the Libre Intense. I can't handle all perfume (ugh...migraines) ...but I can handle Libre. Did I spend over $140 for a full-size Libre Intense...yup! The sizes for sale are the 0.33 oz for $30, 1.00 oz to 5.00 oz from $85 to $180.

I had wanted the Black Opium because I love the sparkly bottle, but I do not like the smell. What a problem to have.

The replacement item was a deluxe sample of the Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick. I really like this lipstick as well. I have quite a few colors. The color is a pinkish nude, I believe it's the #10 Beige Tribute but don't hold me to that. I always go for pinks, so this was a welcome color choice as I don't have it at all. It's quite flattering. The full size is $38. It's more matte than the other lipstick we received, and I find the color lasts for hours.

The last three items are the scents. The vials are presented in the standard cardboard cut-outs. The one on the left is the newest scent from them, it's the Men's Y eau de parfum. It has notes of cedarwood and bold bergamot. I believe it's a strong scent (from my memory). The sizes are from 2.00 oz to 6.7 oz with prices ranging from $106 to $180.

The one on the right is a sample of the lighter Libre perfume called Libre eau de toilette. It has French lavender but has added white tea accord to lighten the scent. I thought it was quite beautiful, but I ended up with the Intense. I did keep this sample because it is a lovely scent. There are three size options, from 1.00 oz to 3.00 oz. and prices ranging from $72 to $120.

The last one came in a tiny bottle. It's the Mon Paris eau de parfum. This is a floral perfume with notes of datura flower, red berries, and pear. I have a full-size bottle of this from my friend. Everyone else got Black Opium for Christmas except me (my dislike was noted!) and he picked this one for me. This was before Libre was announced. I do like it. It's more of a daytime scent to me. It's unoffensive and subtle. The bottle is so pretty, and they all come with the bow. There are four sizes, from 0.33 oz to 5.00 oz. With prices that range from $30 to $158
