The Book Drop: January 2021

6/11/2021

This is my "Bubbly" selection, which is the genre encompassing friendship and romance. I switched it up after this month and went with a mix of romance/friendship and fantasy/sci-fi. I can't remember what it is off the top of my head.

The subscription gets you one softcover book, usually an author goodie, a bookmark and the Indie booklet.

The card from The Book Drop introduces the book. Rescue You. The book was chosen because after 2020, they wanted to pick a happy romance with dogs.

The author content was a letter from the author of the month. Her name was Elysia Whisler. She talks about the themes in her book and where her inspirations came from.

While the book began as a stand-alone, Whisler is adding to it to create the "Dogwood County" series, so if you really like the book, than you'll be in luck.

There was also a  little card, in which I took a horrible photo, that talks about the new merch that they're going to start selling and the enhanced subscriptions.

The Indie Next List...which is great for adding to my TBR list.
We received two bookmarks this month. One was the branded bookmark from The Book Drop while the other one was a publisher's goodie bookmark about The Love Proof by Madeline Henry.

I love bookmarks and can never have enough (these cardstock ones last a few years for me). These were both a welcome addition.

The book was Rescue You by Elysia Whisler. It has obviously been awhile since I received this book and I can say that I've read it. It's a cute romance, with some serious themes throughout.

Whisler herself has interest in a lot of the things in the book, like massage and CrossFit. So her passion shines through. Even with that being noted...there's no way in hell you can convince me that CrossFit is something fun. It sounds like hell.

The main male character owns a CrossFit gym and the main lady character wanders in one day and becomes enchanted with the workout.

There's also a dog rescue element in which the main lady character's sister is rescuing dogs from a dog mill and from random areas of the city.

While the book was cute and well written, I'm not that interested in continuing it mostly because I don't get that hooked on animal focused books. I'm not sure which character leads the next book.
