The Book Drop Subscription September 2020

1/20/2021

I'm trying out a bunch of new subscriptions this year but I've kept The Book Drop. The Book Drop is from Bethany Beach Books in Delaware. There are a lot of different options for genre choice, but I've kept "Books for Bubbly," which is the genre including romance and friendship. While I normally pick mysteries, it's been nice to have something lighter with happy endings. I tried the more book club type book subscription (Books for Tea I think? Or Coffee? One of those) and while they were all great picks, I needed something with a guaranteed happiness level for this pandemic. This subscription totally scratches that itch.

The book for September was Beth O'Leary's The Switch. I actually picked this up in the bookstore (I mean, I was virtually shopping, so I opened the tab) and decided to save it for later as I had Tana French's new book, Samantha Irby's new book, and a new (to me) Sara Blaedel book. I was trying to be good! Luckily it was the monthly pick. A bookmark, note from the author, and a digital copy (via email) to the Indie Next List. I do enjoy having a physical copy but these are crazy times so this was okay.

I haven't yet read this one, but it looks super cute right? I love how colorful the cover is (it's calming!) and it's set in the UK. I'm reading a Tami Hoag, so I might pick up this one afterwards.

Synopsis:

Eileen is sick of being 79.

Leena's tired of life in her twenties.
Maybe it's time they swapped places...

When overachiever Leena Cotton is ordered to take a two-month sabbatical after blowing a big presentation at work, she escapes to her grandmother Eileen's house for some overdue rest. Eileen is newly single and about to turn eighty. She'd like a second chance at love, but her tiny Yorkshire village doesn't offer many eligible gentlemen.

Once Leena learns of Eileen's romantic predicament, she proposes a solution: a two-month swap. Eileen can live in London and look for love. Meanwhile Leena will look after everything in rural Yorkshire. But with gossiping neighbours and difficult family dynamics to navigate up north, and trendy London flatmates and online dating to contend with in the city, stepping into one another's shoes proves more difficult than either of them expected.

Leena learns that a long-distance relationship isn't as romantic as she hoped it would be, and then there is the annoyingly perfect - and distractingly handsome - school teacher, who keeps showing up to outdo her efforts to impress the local villagers. Back in London, Eileen is a huge hit with her new neighbours, but is her perfect match nearer home than she first thought?

As you can see, I struggled with photographing the bookmark. It's a glossy cardboard type paper. Fairly thick. Cute design! I'm a bookmark fiend, so I do appreciate stuff like this.
